Parents of first graders will receive payments — details from the MP.

This year, parents of first graders in Ukraine will receive funds from the state. The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, Danilo Hetmantsev, explained how this will work.

Payments for first graders — what is known

Recall that the government, at the initiative of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, decided to implement financial assistance for families whose children are starting school for the first Time — 'School Package'. This program aims to ease the preparation for the school year for parents of first graders.

The amount of payment is 5,000 hryvnias for each first grader.

According to Hetmantsev, 5,000 hryvnias for a first-grade entry is not enough. However, as the MP notes, this will not be a one-time action.

Hetmantsev said that the state will pay 5,000 hryvnias to families whose children are entering the first grade this year. According to him, funds for first graders will continue to be allocated in the future.

“This is nothing compared to what is necessary. But this is already a step that is needed. This is not a one-time action; this program will be in effect next year as well. But I would call on the government to discuss support for fertility in the country,” said the MP.

In particular, he added that this should be done both through payments and through the establishment of appropriate institutions to support children and their upbringing.

Five thousand for first graders — how to get it

After the child's enrollment in the first grade by the school principal through the AIKOM system, one of the parents (or authorized person) will receive a notification in 'Diia' with an offer to apply for assistance. They will need to confirm their agreement and choose a bank to open a 'Diia Card'.

If the family does not use 'Diia', they can submit an application at the service center of the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

How the funds can be spent

The one-time financial assistance can only be spent cashless, using a card.

The funds must be used within six months (180 days) from the moment they are credited to the account. After that, the unused balance will return to the state budget.

Recall that the Ministry of Social Policy suggested the government increase financial assistance to families with newborns to 50,000 hryvnias.

The government of Ukraine has decided to implement a new program 'School Package', which provides for financial assistance of 5,000 hryvnias for each first grader. This step is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents in connection with preparing the child for school life. The main task of the program is to stimulate fertility and support young families.
