Prices for basic vegetables are decreasing and increasing
Lately, Ukrainian consumers have been closely monitoring the prices of essential food products. Vegetables, which are an important part of many families' daily diets, have sparked particular interest.
The 'Khvilya' portal, based on monitoring data from 'Minfin,' examined how the prices of onions, carrots, and cabbage have changed over the past month and year.
Over the month, the price of onions delighted buyers with a slight decrease. Currently, the average cost of a kilogram of onions is 16.12 hryvnias, which is 1.41 hryvnias less than in August 2024. This decrease in percentage terms is about 8%.
However, if you look at the situation on an annual basis, the picture looks different. In September 2023, a kilogram of onions could be bought for 11.98 hryvnias. Thus, over the year, the price increased by 4.14 hryvnias, which means an increase of 34.6%.
The situation with carrots is similar to onions in the short term. Over the past month, the price of carrots decreased by 1.97 hryvnias, reaching 17.79 hryvnias per kilogram. This decrease was about 10% compared to August 2024.
However, the annual dynamics show significant growth. If in September 2023 a kilogram of carrots cost 10.57 hryvnias, now the price has risen by 7.22 hryvnias, reaching an increase of 68.3%.
White cabbage shows the most dramatic changes in price. Over the past month, there has been a slight decrease: the price decreased by 2.06 hryvnias, reaching 30.95 hryvnias per kilogram, which corresponds to a decrease of 6.2%.
