The EU can protect the steel industry from Trump's tariffs by completely banning supplies from Russia.

The European Union is actively responding to the impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs and Chinese excess steel supplies on the EU steel industry. As a result of Russia's aggressive actions in Ukraine, a decision was made to completely ban the import of steel from the Russian Federation. Thus, metal supplies from Russia will be halted. Stopping Russian supplies is seen as a potential tool of influence that will help domestic steel production survive the difficulties related to tariffs and unregulated production in China.
“Russian steel is still arriving in Europe. How much? Three to four million tons a year. And it can be very easily stopped.”
Additionally, the European Union has started negotiations for a trade agreement with India, which also plans to increase steel product exports. However, there is a threat that, similar to Chinese agreements, India may use dumping practices, which would pose a serious challenge for the EU.
Possible EU Measures to Protect the Domestic Market
In order to prevent the rerouting of Chinese steel and aluminum production from the U.S. to the EU market, the European Union is already considering expanding import quotas for steel and introducing protective mechanisms for aluminum. There is also a possibility of imposing export duties on scrap metal.
Due to the impact of Trump's tariffs and Chinese steel supplies on the EU steel industry market, the European Union is responding by banning steel imports from Russia and considering ways to protect the domestic market from dumping and the rerouting of Chinese production. Negotiations with India are ongoing, but there is a threat of possible dumping practices. The EU is actively seeking ways to protect and support domestic steel and aluminum production.
