The EU will provide Ukraine with 1 billion euros in grants for the defense industry.

The Ambassador of the European Union in Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, spoke about how the 2.1 billion euros received from frozen assets of the Russian central bank will be used, which will soon be transferred to Ukraine by the EU.

This week, the European Commission will receive 2.1 billion euros of unexpected income from frozen assets of the Russian central bank held in central depositories. Most of the funds will be used to purchase weapons, ammunition, and air defense systems for Ukraine in the form of grants.

The ambassador explained that part of the funds will be distributed among EU member states for the purchase of ammunition and air defense systems. In total, of the 2.1 billion euros, 1 billion euros will go to the Ukrainian defense industry under the 'Danish model.' Katarina Maternova also reminded that the EU had previously allocated 400 million euros to support Ukraine's defense industry.

This will enable the rapid restoration of essential infrastructure such as water supply and energy-efficient facilities. These projects are aimed at supporting Ukraine's recovery and long-term resilience.

Additionally, an agreement was signed on Ukraine's participation in the EU 'Copernicus' space program.
