Canada has closed one of the important programs for Ukrainians.

Canada has terminated the government program for citizens of Ukraine, which provided the opportunity to obtain permanent residence in the country if they have relatives in Canada.
The program, created to support Ukrainian families separated by the war, no longer accepts new applications.
The applications submitted before the program's closure are still being processed, so those who applied earlier may receive temporary residence permits in Canada.
What are the current options for Ukrainians?
Temporary permits: Ukrainian citizens residing in Canada can apply for work or study permits and may also request an extension of their temporary status if their application for permanent residence is still in process.
Regular immigration programs: Canada continues to accept permanent residence applications through the main immigration programs:
- Express Entry: a program for skilled workers based on a points system. Candidates are evaluated based on education level, work experience, language skills, and other factors.
- Family sponsorship: Ukrainians with relatives in Canada still have the opportunity for sponsorship, but this process takes longer than before.
- Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP): some Canadian provinces offer programs for immigrants with relevant professional skills.
- Other programs for refugees: in a difficult situation, Ukrainians may apply for refugee status.
Earlier, it was reported that Canada plans to cancel the program for accepting Ukrainian refugees. The Minister of Immigration of Canada, Marc Miller, stated that the country does not plan to extend the emergency visa program for Ukrainians after the deadline.
