Lina Kostenko and Bernard-Henri Lévy will receive the Sheptytsky Medal at the US Capitol.

The Jewish Confederation of Ukraine and the initiative 'Ukrainian-Jewish Meeting' announced the laureates of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Medal for the year 2025. This award will be given to the outstanding Ukrainian poetess Lina Kostenko and the French philosopher and director Bernard-Henri Lévy, reports 'Glavkom.'

The solemn award ceremony will take place on April 30 in Washington. This ceremony will be dedicated to the laureates' contributions to the protection of human rights, interethnic dialogue, and support for Ukraine in the conditions of war.

The President of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine, Vice President of the World Jewish Congress, and Chairman of the Board of the 'Ukrainian-Jewish Meeting' will present the awards at the US Capitol.

The organizers note that Lina Kostenko has always defended human rights and the rights of nations to self-determination, including Jews, in her works. During Soviet times, her works were banned.

The poetry and prose of Lina Kostenko still inspire Ukrainians in their struggle against Russian aggression. The courage to speak the truth and stand up for the oppressed has always been an inseparable trait of Lina Kostenko. Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky acted similarly in his Time.

Bernard-Henri Lévy is a well-known Western intellectual. He is the author of 49 books and 9 films, many of which are dedicated to Ukraine's struggle against Russian aggression.

The French philosopher and film director has always advocated for human rights and the rights of nations to self-determination in his works, just like Metropolitan Sheptytsky.

During the Russian invasion, Lévy filmed three documentaries about Ukrainians resisting Russian aggression. In the summer of 2025, the release of the fourth film titled 'Our War' is planned.

Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky was the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church from 1901 to 1944. During World War II, he personally helped in rescue efforts for Jews, hiding them in the monasteries of Western Ukraine, including in his metropolitan residence.
