Ukrainian human rights defenders have revealed the existence of a network of secret prisons for Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia. One of the co-founders of the initiative 'Search. Captivity' is lawyer Mykola Polozov, who spoke about known places of detention of prisoners in the Kursk and Donetsk regions.

Usually, Ukrainian military personnel are held in detention centers or correctional colonies, but human rights defenders have noted the existence of so-called 'centers for temporary detention of persons who have been detained for resisting the special military operation.'

Experts estimate that there are at least five such centers in Russia, but their number may be significantly higher. These institutions are almost impossible to track due to the lack of official addresses and absence from the Federal Penitentiary Service system. They may be controlled by the Ministry of Defense and the military police of the Russian Federation, which prohibit access to any information about these facilities.

The actual number of prisoners may be much higher

According to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, more than 300 places of detention for Ukrainian military personnel have been created in Russia, including prisons, colonies, and detention centers in various regions.
