In Serbia, tens of thousands of students took to the streets again to protest the tragedy in Novi Sad.


Students who have been blocking universities for nearly a month gathered on December 22 for a peaceful protest in the central square of the Serbian capital, Belgrade. This was reported by 'Balkan Observer.'
It is noted that the purpose of the action was to draw attention to the demands of the protesters, which included bringing those responsible for the tragedy in Novi Sad to justice, where 15 people died due to the collapse of a canopy at the train station, and punishing the culprits who committed a violent attack on the students' rally.
Farmers and actors joined the rally at Slavija Square in support of the students.
The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the rally in Belgrade started around 15:15, at the peak attendance Time of 16:40. There were 28-29 thousand citizens present.
The action proceeded without significant incidents or violations of public order.
It is known that the train station in Novi Sad opened in July 2024 after reconstruction carried out by a Chinese contractor. Meanwhile, construction work was still ongoing in certain parts of the station at the time of the collapse.
Recall that on November 1, part of the roof collapsed at the train station in the Serbian city of Novi Sad. As a result, 15 people died, and three others suffered serious injuries.
Later, several thousand activists gathered on November 5 in the Serbian city of Novi Sad for a protest. Opposition activists and human rights groups accuse the government of corruption and demand resignations. Protesters with placards reading 'Blood on your hands,' 'Corruption kills,' chanting 'Arrest Vucic,' marched.
Also, in the city of Novi Sad, a group of activists, citizens, and local opposition deputies tried to forcibly enter the city council building when the issue of the mayor's resignation was being discussed.
