Construction of a crematorium begins in one of the western regions.

A crematorium opens in Lviv
On January 2, the construction of a crematorium has begun in Lviv, as reported by the city's mayor, Andriy Sadovyi.
The crematorium will be part of the Holoskivske cemetery and is expected to start functioning in 2022. The crematorium project was chosen as a result of an architectural competition held in 2021.
The mayor understands that this issue may be controversial, but he believes that every family and every person has the right to choose freely.
The total cost of the crematorium is currently unknown, but the architectural part of the project was previously estimated at 200 million hryvnias. The crematorium will include a stone building for farewell ceremonies and places for the burial of ashes - columbaria. An inner courtyard is also planned, which will connect the entrance to the farewell hall and the cremation furnaces.
Holoskivsky cemetery is the only functioning cemetery in Lviv among the 12 existing ones. The rest of the cemeteries are permitted only for the burial of relatives of the deceased.
Currently, Ukraine has only three crematoriums located in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa.
