The UN reported how long it will take to clear Ukraine of mines and shells.

Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Director of the UNDP Crisis Bureau Shoko Noda stated that clearing Ukrainian land of mines through traditional methods could take a hundred years. She expressed the opinion about the possibility of using innovative methods that would simplify this procedure. According to Noda, with continuous efforts and technological advancements, significant progress can be made within a few years. UNDP is exploring new opportunities for safe and effective demining of Ukrainian territories. The organization plans to use drones, UAVs, service dogs, and other methods. Trials of innovative mine detection methods conducted by UNDP have shown promising results. Significant success has been achieved using the latest methods of detecting explosive objects. Noda also noted that demining groups, which will use trained dogs to search for mines and other dangerous objects, are actively developing. However, the complete demining of Ukraine's territory depends on the end of the war.
Canada will also join the creation of a training program in mine action for women who will work in Ukraine. An artificial intelligence platform will assist in demining, advising on how to effectively clear a specific area of mines. Part of the right bank of the Kherson region has already been cleared of mines, and it is planned to clear the entire area by the end of 2025, provided that the security situation improves.
