In a few hours, the election of the IOC president will take place: information about all candidates.

Election of the new IOC leader
On March 20, the 144th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) took place in Costa Navarino, Greece, where a new head of the organization was determined. The voting was held at 16:00 Kyiv Time.
During the voting period, candidates with the least number of votes dropped out of the race. The new IOC leader is elected for a term of 8 years.
Candidates for the position of IOC president
- IOC Executive Member Prince Faisal Al-Hussein (Jordan)
- President of World Athletics Sebastian Coe (Great Britain)
- IOC Executive Member Kirsty Coventry (Zimbabwe)
- President of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation Johan Eliasch (Sweden)
- President of the International Cycling Union and the French NOC David Lappartient (France)
- IOC Vice President Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. (Spain)
The newly elected IOC president will officially assume office on June 24, 2025. He will replace Thomas Bach in this position.
It should be noted that the IOC session also addressed the issue of the organization's president Thomas Bach's photo with Russian skier Varvara Prokhorova, who holds the rank of ensign in the Russian army. The IOC stated that an athlete competing with a neutral status should be considered like any other athlete.
It was also noted that as a result of Varvara Prokhorova's meeting with IOC President Thomas Bach, she has the opportunity to compete in the World Cup stages and at the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy.
However, the IOC's recommendations emphasize that only those Russian athletes who are not representatives of the armed forces or security agencies of the Russian Federation can receive a neutral status.
It is worth noting that the Office of the Organization for Ethics and Compliance includes Russian Maxim Soldatkin, whose work was the reason for Prokhorova's 'neutral status.'
Currently, neither Prokhorova nor Bach are commenting on the details of their meeting and future plans. However, the athlete noted in her interview that she received updates on sports news through Maxim Soldatkin.
