Saudi Arabia has launched one of the most ambitious projects in the world - the construction of the 170-kilometer megacity The Line. The first phase, called Hidden Marina, has already started. This was reported by 'Glavcom' with reference to New Atlas.

Dimensions and Structure

Hidden Marina will stretch 2.5 km in length and rise 500 m. It will consist of three modular segments with mirrored facades. The total built-up area will be 21 million square meters, which significantly exceeds the area of the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa.

Population and Infrastructure

The city is planned to accommodate 200,000 residents, for whom more than 80,000 residential houses, 9,000 hotel rooms, as well as city infrastructure facilities will be built: schools, police stations, fire stations, commercial and retail areas.

'The idea is that residents will have access to all everyday things within a five-minute walk, and a high-speed railway will provide transit communication across the megacity,' New Atlas writes.

Technologies of the Future

The Line will use AI-based video surveillance systems for energy consumption management and urban environment maintenance. Currently, over 140,000 workers are involved in the project's construction, with $140 billion invested in infrastructure to support this city of the future.

Features

On the top floor of Hidden Marina, a futuristic stadium will be built, which will host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. 'It is expected that Hidden Marina will be completed by 2030, allowing for a stadium to be located on the top floor of The Line,' New Atlas writes.
